Our Milk Shampoo is one of the first products we ever made, and it was originally made for a family member with an extremely itchy scalp. It’s no wonder that not long after we went on to create this scalp treatment cream to tackle even the most troublesome scalp issues. Whether you’re a week old or a proud centenarian, scalp troubles can affect us all. There are a number of reasons scalps can start feeling sensitive, but for many people, it's often caused by a reaction to a prevalence of yeast on the skin. This is most common in oiler areas like the scalp, but can also occur along the hairline, neck, ears, eye areas, and along the side of the nose and mouth.

This dry scalp relief cream is designed to soothe and hydrate red, distressed, itchy skin on the head, neck and face. It's a moisturizing emollient that reins in redness, soothes sensitivity and finally finish flakes with soothing ingredients and natural oils to gently nourish and protect dry, red, troubled skin. Stop stressing out your scalp

Our scalps go through a lot. They get scrubbed, covered with hats, coloured and even sunburned. Let’s not forget about daily heat styling, weather changes, and tight ponytails. They're also the most neglected part of our skincare routines and rarely get the royal treatment the face gets with its fancy serums and moisturizers.

When your scalp starts stressing out, it can quickly become dry, flakey and itchy. This can often be a result of being stripped of its protective oils with harsh detergents found in most commercial shampoos. Hair needs to be cleaned, but synthetic sulfates like SLS strip out and wash away way too much moisture.

Strong sulfates aren’t the only offenders. Silicone is commonly found in hair conditioners because it makes hair feel soft and slippery, but over time it can start sticking around. Even a little bit of build-up on the scalp can start to cause irritation.

Mixed in with dead skin, sweat and excess oils, chunks or bits of build-up can slough off, making an appearance on your scalp, hair and clothing. Not the look we suppose you’re going for.

When it comes to our caps, we prefer to take a more causational and holistic approach, fighting flakes by diminishing dryness and infusing invigorating ingredients that revive and rebalance the scalp. What’s the best way to apply Scalp Cream?

Apply topically as required to red, dry, affected skin after cleansing. If applying to the scalp with a head full of hair, for best results, part the hair and apply the cream, leaving it on overnight. Simply wash out in the morning with a natural shampoo like our Milk Shampoo. As with all natural products patch test first to check for allergies.

What other MooGoo products help irritated scalps?

For any scalp under the sun, healthy or troubled, we always recommend using our sulfate-free Milk Shampoo and our silicone-free Cream Conditioner. These are particularly helpful for stressed-out scalps because they won’t add to the problem by stripping it and causing further dryness or create the conditions for scalp-irritating build-up. They also both contain nourishing and beneficial ingredients that help control the microflora of the scalp.

If you're into using dry shampoo, we suggest skipping on all aerosols. Beyond the obvious inhalation of aerosol chemicals, spray format dry shampoos also tend to be a bit wet upon application and can coat the hair and scalp causing build-up, irritation and itchiness, all things we’d prefer not to put our heads through. Our natural powder formula is non-irritating, won’t build up on the scalp and rinses right out as soon as you decide to shower.

How do most scalp care shampoos work?

Most scalp care shampoos out there don't care to much for scalps. Shampoos that claim to “wash away flakes” are made with a high percentage of detergents to simply strip away the symptoms (aka flakes), but they inevitably return, often with a vengeance, and the cycle repeats. We don’t think this heavy-handed approach does your scalp any good as it can further dry it out and can end up exacerbating the problem in the long run.

Is Scalp Cream made of milk?

We aren’t called MooGoo because our products are made with milk. Putting fresh milk into a skincare product and putting it on a shelf would not end well.

Is Scalp Cream suitable for children?

Our Scalp Cream is made for the whole family! For all ages, from adults to newborns, and everything in between. It’s even gentle enough to be used on delicate baby scalps. If allergies are a concern, as with all natural products, we recommend a patch test before use.

What is the pH level of your Scalp Cream?

Our Scalp Cream is slightly acidic, balanced to the pH of human skin at 5.5 to 6.0.

I have a sensitive scalp; will I react to Scalp Cream?

Everybody is different and what works for some will not for others, and some people have allergies to natural ingredients. We believe that natural ingredients are gentler on the scalp, and are particularly suitable for those that are red, irritated and itchy. If you're experiencing scalp issues or sensitivity, we always recommend doing a patch test before use.

Are your products tested on animals?

The only animals we use for testing are our own bodies. We never test on animals and will not export to countries that do.

How can I avoid drying out my scalp?

We've yet to meet anyone that doesn't love a hot shower, but sadly, hot water can seriously dry out your skin, and that includes your scalp. Very hot water can strip your scalp of its protective oils and essentially boil it, making it red, raw, and ready to kick up a fuss.

Since our scalps are often hiding under a head of hair, we tend to forget about them. Since a dry scalp is the first step to an itchy scalp, and moisturizing in the traditional sense can be a tricky task, the best way to keep your scalp cool, calm, and collected is to stop stripping it with sulphates and scalding water.

Your scalp is a clever little thing and produces moisturizing oils to protect itself. Stripping these oils away with harsh detergents and hot water can kickstart your scalp into oil-producing overdrive, leading to an unideal gamut of grease, unless you’re into that wet look. So, save your scalp and keep things lukewarm.

How can I show my scalp some love?

Amid life’s busyness, it’s important to show your scalp a little love from time to time. This can come in the form of a rejuvenating massage, a gentle scrub with a scalp brush, or a hydrating hair and scalp mask with a healthy dose of our Cream Conditioner or Protein Shote Leave-In. The longer you leave these on, the better, and they pair perfectly with a cup of herbal tea, a (natural) bubble bath and a relaxing playlist on a Sunday afternoon.
