I'm Vegan - Can I Use MooGoo?

I'm Vegan - Can I Use MooGoo?

Answer: Yes!*

This is a question we get asked daily, and it’s not surprising that lots of people think MooGoo is made from milk. We're quite proud of our MOO-story, we love cows and we're not shy about using the occasional cow-based pun!

Beautiful bovine branding aside - mixing milk into skincare would make it almost impossible to keep fresh and bacteria-free. We're called MooGoo because our first cream was based on a balm used in dairy farms to help keep the cow's udders healthy and supple. The cream was first made by our founder for his mum, who suffered from a common skin condition. She shared the cream with her friends, and eventually, it became popular enough that it needed a name. MooGoo was one of the first names we came up with, it rolled nicely off the tongue, so we rolled with it.

So, you would have noticed an asterisk when we said Yes, Vegans can use MooGoo. All that means is that *there are some products which do contain non-Vegan ingredients (Milk Protein and Honey in some of the creams, and Beeswax in the Lip Balms). So, to help our Vegan friends out, you can shop our Vegan-Friendly category here!

We know that people choose to be Vegan for a whole range of reasons, including compassionate, health and environmental. We ourselves are comfortable consuming milk and other animal-derived products, and so we're comfortable using these in a few of our products.

Because we take care of lots of customers who suffer from sensitive, irritable skin (including babies) our major focus is to ensure the ingredients we use are naturally derived, non-irritating and as close to food as possible. Like all skincare companies in Australia, we are 100% Cruelty-Free and do not test our products on animals. We've carefully chosen the ingredients we use, including the non-Vegan ones. For example, Honey (Mel) is great for healing skin and is a natural anti-bacterial ingredient. Studies have found that Milk Protein in a cream increased skin elasticity by around 20%, compared to the same cream without it. Skin elasticity ensures lines and wrinkles are minimised after any movement of the skin.
