Understated and unscented, this one was made with the sensitive types in mind. If you're often easily irritated (sounds like us) by antiperspirants, or your pits are particularly pedantic, we've got you fully covered. Literally, just cover your armpits in this.
Deodorants vs. Antiperspirants
Deodorant. One of those beautiful inventions of modern life that we can't live without. Not all deodorant is created equal and there seems to be confusion around the word itself. Products of the antiperspirant persuasion, just as the name implies, stops you from sweating (anti-perspiration), and deodorants, just as the name also implies, de-odour-ize. All deodorants aren't antiperspirants, but all antiperspirants are deodorants. Confused yet?
To stop you from sweating, antiperspirants use aluminum-based ingredients to clog sweat glands and leave them high and dry. Don't get us wrong, we love aluminum, an amazing metal that's great for so many things like roofs and soda cans, but our armpits or our bloodstream is not where we want to find it. On the other hand (well armpit), natural deodorants don't have these little cloggers, and make it possible to share an elevator with someone without having your sweat glands corked up like a fine wine.
The down-low on BO
Perspiration is part of your natural plumbing system that helps rid our bodies of toxins, but we've never been a fan of the smell that comes with this magical little process. Did you know that sweat is odourless, colourless and even sterile? Poor sweat, always getting a bad rap. That means those unpleasant smells that waft up from your armpits aren't caused by sweat at all.
What causes BO are the bacteria that treat your sweat like a buffet. Removing sweat to get rid of any smell sounds like a great idea, because no food for bacteria = no bacteria, which = no smell. Turns out, it's not because trying to get rid of sweat by clogging your sweat glands can cause a whole pit full of other problems, including itching, burning and stinging or even a rash.
Does your natural deodorant work?
The effectiveness of a natural deodorant depends on how well it controls your smelliness, because as you now know, they won't stop you sweating. This is where our in-farm-ous Fresh Cream Deodorant comes in. Our unique, alkaline formula controls odour-causing bacteria from throwing a party in your pits (no bacteria = no smell). It's cool, soft, and clean, like velvety fresh cream.
If you're often irritated by antiperspirants or natural deodorants made with strong essential oils, or your pits are particularly pedantic, we've got you fully covered. Literally, just cover your armpits in this and enjoy smelling fresh as a daisy. You may feel a little more moisture under your arms, but your sweat glands will be much cleaner and happier for going aluminum-free. It's our #1 best-selling product year after year, and it's legend-dairy.
Aqua (H₂O’s Fancy Name), Magnesium Hydroxide (Milk of Magnesia), Xanthan Gum (Food Grade Thickener), Piroctone Olamine (Olamine Salt), Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract.
Because we make our products for our families, we have a strict ingredient philosophy that excludes ingredients like Parabens, Phenoxyethanol and penetration enhancers.
We show all of the ingredients we use in our products on our website, not just the pretty ones. That way you know exactly what's in each one, and can get in touch if you have any more questions.
Please be aware that the ingredients we use in our formulas may be updated occasionally and therefore vary from time to time. Please refer to the ingredient list on the product packaging for the most up-to-date and relevant list of ingredients.
The roller on my Fresh Cream Deodorant won’t spin. Help!?
When you first use your new Fresh Cream Deodorant, you may notice the rollerball is a little stiff or won’t move at all. This can sometimes happen due to colder temperatures our products are either stored in or transported in on their way to you (it is Canada, after all). Getting your rollerball working is easy, simply run it under very warm water. This should loosen the ball and get things rolling again. It might need a good shove, but once it gets rolling, it usually stays that way. If you live in a place with very cold winters, you may have to do this every so often.
Is Fresh Cream Deodorant made of milk?
We aren’t called MooGoo because our products are made with milk. Putting fresh milk into a skincare care product and putting it on a shelf would not end well. Our Fresh Cream Deodorant actually doesn’t contain any ingredients derived from animal products.
I have sensitive skin; will I react to Fresh Cream Deodorant?
Everybody is different and what works for some will not for others, and some people have allergies to natural ingredients. We believe that natural ingredients are gentler on the skin and are particularly suitable for those with sensitivities. If you experience any skin issues, we always recommend doing a patch test before use.
Are your products tested on animals?
The only animals we use for testing are our own bodies. We never test on animals and will not export to countries that do.
Is Fresh Cream Deodorant suitable for teenagers?
Our Fresh Cream Deodorant is made for absolutely every-body! It’s suitable for all ages, as needed, from children to adults, and everything in between. The light, subtle scent is not overpowering, and we think it’s best to get young teenagers started with natural deodorants straight away instead of using antiperspirants that they may have to detox from later. If allergies are a concern, as with all natural products, we recommend doing a patch test before use.
Why do antiperspirants make my armpits itch?
Most antiperspirants are made with and work by clogging your pores and sweat glands with aluminum salts. This can cause the thin skin of the armpit to react badly, from itching, burning and stinging to the development of a red, irritated, flakey rash in rebellion. This is usually a clear sign of an allergy to aluminum.
Some antiperspirants and deodorants are made with strong essential oils. While they can smell great at first, they tend to just mask the odour and mix in with BO as the day goes on. Some essential oils can be quite strong and cause skin reactions that can lead to underarm itchiness.
Do natural deodorants work?
In comparison to antiperspirants, which just like the name implies are anti-perspiration, no, natural deodorants don’t work. The reason for this is because deodorants deodorize and will not stop you from sweating because they do not contain the aluminum-based ingredients that clog up your pores and sweat glands.
Within the world of natural deodorants, whether you use a crystal, a paste, or a roll-on like ours, the effectiveness of a deodorant is based on how well it controls your smelliness. We use an alkaline formula to control odour-causing bacteria from throwing a party in your pits (no bacteria = no smell). You will still sweat, a natural process we prefer not to mess with.
How do I switch to a natural deodorant?
When swapping from an antiperspirant you’ve used for years to an aluminium-free, natural deodorant, there is going to be a purging process and an adjustment period. Let’s be clear here, deodorants don’t stop you from sweating like antiperspirants do so it's important to fully understand this first. When making the switch, it's common to think that natural deodorants just don't work. This is usually because you may not be used to sweating and just haven't adjusted yet.
We've also heard from some of our customers that they became 'smelly' for a short time. While this sounds like a bad thing, it’s actually a good thing. It means that your sweat glands are starting to detoxify after being clogged for so many years. Like rehab for your armpits, it may not be pleasant but it’s the best thing for them. We found there is a transition period of about 2 weeks as the body adjusts to the glorious freedom of natural deodorant.
