This magical moisturizer is chock-a-block with GOO-ness we'd like to brag about. The name of the game is hydrating skin, so the base of this cream is made with skin-compatible Sweet Almond, Olive and Coconut Oil because they’re nourishing and absorb easily into the skin. These are also high in the types of fatty acids that healthy skin needs to restore and maintain optimal skin barrier function, so your sensitive skin can finally chill out, relax and get some rest.

We also included some key ingredients to make sure skin gets some top-notch pampering and TLC too. Aloe Vera is well-known for its soothing properties and Natural Vitamin E is a renowned antioxidant. But the real soothing superstar is MSM, ever heard of it? MSM is organic sulfur, and stands for Methylsulfonylmethane (try saying that five times!). We put as much as we could fit into our formula, 10% to be exact, to rein in redness and inflammation (hello, sunburn) and soothe sensitivity. What a show-off!

We all know skin is our largest organ, but did you know it makes up about 1/7 of our body weight and has a surface area of up to 2 square meters? Holy cow! Our skin does so much for us; it has a full-time job of keeping harmful things out and vital things in. Keeping skin hydrated is more important than you think. When it's dry, it's much easier for irritants to pass through the skin barrier, causing dryness to drag on and sensitivities to start.

Sometimes, even if you give your skin the royal treatment, you might just be blessed with skin that likes to kick up a fuss and throw a tantrum from time to time. While there are many factors that determine how your skin presents, a proactive measure one can take to make sure not to cause your skin any unnecessary stress is to care for it with gentle and natural products.

Why we choose what we use

It’s common to think all moisturizers are created equal, but that’s not the case. Most commercial moisturizers are made with petroleum-based ingredients like Mineral and Paraffin Oil that make your skin feel smooth, but don’t provide much benefit. These, along with the likes of penetration enhancers and strong fragrances can really send sensitive skin reeling.

As with all our products, we use a natural preservation system to keep things fresh, in this case with Hops Extract. It’s free from Parabens, Phenoxyethanol, and other harsh chemicals commonly found in skincare products, all adding to our daily toxic load.

What is MSM?

Methyl-sulfonyl-methane (don't worry, there won't be a spelling bee), aka MSM, is a natural source of organic sulfur. Think of it as the glue that holds together our amino acid chains, aka the building blocks our tissues. We love this mineral not only because it’s naturally abundant in the human body, but because when applied in a moisturizer, it benefits all skin types in so many ways. Its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties help skin prone to conditions like eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, rosacea, acne and dryness, or even if you’re just a little on the sensitive side.

What other MooGoo products help irritable skin?

For all skin under the sun, healthy or troubled, we always recommend using our creamy, sulfate-free Milk Wash. This is particularly helpful for stressed-out skin because it won’t add to the problem by stripping it of its natural oils and causing further dryness. It also contains nourishing and beneficial ingredients that keep the skin moisturized, soft and s-MOO-th.

My cream isn't white. Does this mean it has gone bad?

You may notice that your cream isn’t bright white or changes colour slightly over time. This is because we use natural ingredients which are often rich in colour and can change the colour of a cream after it's mixed in. Although people generally expect a cream to always be white, we choose not to use any bleaching ingredients to keep them white. So, don’t be surprised if your cream changes to a light tan, pink or grey colour over time, it's not a bad thing and is perfectly fine to use (always check expiry dates)! It’s also good to note that the colour of your cream may also vary slightly from tube to tube, or bottle to bottle.

Your Soothing MSM Moisturizer has a fragrance. Aren’t fragrances bad?

We designed our Soothing MSM Moisturizer to be suitable for people with very sensitive skin, but we also know that many people, including ourselves, enjoy having a fragrance in our skincare products. To give our Soothing MSM Moisturizer its delicious, signature scent without compromising its gentleness and non-irritating nature, we use a special hypoallergenic fragrant oil, a proprietary blend whereby each component in it is less than the EU allergy threshold. Also, it’s free from phthalates, which is a major concern in fragrances.

Can Soothing MSM Moisturizer be used on the face?

Yes, it most certainly can and SHOULD! Most commercial moisturizing products are made with cheap, petroleum-based ingredients like Mineral Oil that make the skin feel smooth, but don’t provide much benefit to the skin. Many body moisturizers are also made with powerful penetration enhancers based on Glycols and PEGs (essentially solvents) that help the cream penetrate the top layers of the skin, so they don’t feel as greasy. We suggest not using any creams that fall into this category, but especially not on your face and the delicate skin around your eyes.

BUT, if your body moisturizer is made with high-quality, skin-friendly, natural ingredients like our Soothing MSM Moisturizer, then we highly recommend using it on your face so your visage can also reap the benefits of this magnificent moisturizer. The natural oils we use sink in to quench deep down dehydration, also making them non-comedogenic, meaning they won’t block your pores.

Is Soothing MSM Moisturizer made of milk?

We aren’t called MooGoo because our products are made with milk. Putting fresh milk into a skincare care product and putting it on a shelf would not end well.

Is Soothing MSM Moisturizer suitable for children?

Our Soothing MSM Moisturizer is made for the whole family! For all ages, from adults to newborns, and everything in between. It’s even gentle enough to be used on delicate baby skin. If allergies are a concern, as with all natural products, we recommend doing a patch test before use.

What is the pH level of your products?

Our Soothing MSM Moisturizer is slightly acidic, balanced to the pH of human skin at 5.5 to 6.0.

I have sensitive skin; will I react to Soothing MSM Moisturizer?

Everybody is different and what works for some will not for others, and some people have allergies to natural ingredients. We believe that natural ingredients are gentler on the skin and are particularly suitable for those with skin problems. If you're experiencing skin issues or sensitivity, we always recommend doing a patch test before use.

Are your products tested on animals?

The only animals we use for testing are our own bodies. We never test on animals and will not export to countries that do.

How can I avoid drying out my skin?

We've yet to meet anyone that doesn't love a hot shower, but sadly, hot water can seriously dry out your skin as it can strip it of its protective oils and essentially boil it, making it red, raw, and ready to kick up a fuss. So, save your skin and go lukewarm.

How can I show my skin some love?

Amid life’s busyness, it’s important to make time to show your skin some love. We all moisturize our faces daily (we hope!), but why should the face get all the love? Put the phone down and take 5 minutes to rub on some moisturizer all over your body. Once you start doing it regularly, it’ll become a habit just like brushing your teeth, and you’ll notice a mega difference in your skin very quickly. It’s also a great excuse to give yourself a mini massage and practice some mindfulness too. Now that’s multi-tasking.

What does "Dermatologically Tested" mean?

You may have seen the term “Dermatologically Tested” on lots of products before, but did you know there’s not an actual definition or regulation for this term? Because that didn’t sit right with us, and because our aim is to make products for people with really sensitive skin, we decided to send a bunch of them off to be tested in an independent lab on 54 people who reported having sensitive skin. The results were given on a scale of 0 to 5 with 0 being no irritation or redness and 5 being a reaction. We’re happy to report that other than one person who had a reaction to the adhesive on the patch and another who found the patches painful to remove, all subjects reported 0 for redness and irritation for all the products we sent for testing.
