Hyaluronic Acid: What Is It & Why We Love It?
If you've been around the paddock for a while, you’ll know that we're all about ingredients that can talk the talk AND walk the walk. With so many options out there, it can be hard to cut through the marketing fluff and crazy claims to figure out what ingredients actually do the do.
Hyaluronic Acid is one of those impressive all-rounders. Since we aim to make all of our products suitable for as many people as we can, especially the sensitive types, Hyaluronic Acid gets extra bonus points for being kind and gentle on the skin too. So, we took the time, did the research, and found a few ways to incorporate it into our range.
What is Hyaluronic Acid (HA)?
Hyaluronic Acid is naturally found in the skin. As we age, our skin’s ability to hold onto moisture levels lessens, which causes it to become dry more easily, resulting in the creation of fine lines.
Collagen is mainly made of water so keeping moisture around helps boost its production as well as improves skin elasticity and encourages skin cell renewal. So basically everything. When applied, Hyaluronic Acid pulls moisture into the skin which helps keep everything running smoothly. Hydrated skin has a plumper appearance that helps minimize the formation of fine lines and wrinkles and also improves skin texture.
Hydration isn’t the only thing Hyaluronic Acid is good for. It also has some antioxidant properties that protect your skin from free radical damage which leads to premature skin ageing. OK, so there is hope!
Why do we use more than 1 type of HA?
There are many kinds of Hyaluronic Acid available with varying molecular weights. A higher molecular weight has more of a hydrating effect resulting in long-lasting moisture. A lower molecular weight more easily penetrates the skin to help reduce wrinkle depth. We use 2 different Hyaluronic Acids in our Hyaluronic Acid and Niacinamide Active Serum, one with a higher weight, and one with a lower weight to give you the best of both worlds. Who says you can't have it all?
When's the best time to use HA?
Don't let the name scare you. Unlike some acids, this one doesn't strip the skin. It’s also super gentle and can be applied morning and night, or both if that's what you fancy. Whether you have dry, oily, combination, sensitive, or blemish-prone skin, this one's for you. Your skin will drink it up and thank you later.
