A Gentler Way To Get Flake-Free

A Gentler Way To Get Flake-Free

Flake Off, Dandruff! Meet Your Anti-Dandruff Duo 👋

If your scalp has ever had you scratching your head (literally), we feel you.

Flakes on your shoulders. Itchiness that won’t quit. Red, raw patches that seem to flare up out of nowhere... Whether you’re dealing with Dandruff, Seborrheic Dermatitis, Psoriasis or a combination of all three, your scalp deserves better.

That’s where we come in. At MooGoo, we’re all about skin-friendly, fuss-free solutions that are gentle, effective and don’t cost the earth. Ready to give your scalp the TLC it deserves? Read along, and let’s get flake-free.

What’s Actually Going On Up There?

First of all, you're not alone! Dandruff affects at least 50% of us and is a mild form of Seborrheic Dermatitis - a common scalp condition that causes flaking, redness, irritation and inflammation. Stress, cold weather and changes in the state of your skin barrier can make symptoms worse.

It tends to pop up in oily areas, like your scalp, hairline, ears and even around your nose or mouth. Babies can get a version too, known as Cradle Cap, which shows up as greasy yellow or brown scales. Normally, this is pain-free, but some bubs can experience severe irritation.

The culprit? A pesky little yeast called Malassezia (specifically Malassezia restricta and Malassezia globosa). It feeds off the oils on your scalp and throws everything off balance, triggering those dreaded symptoms. Unfortunately, there’s no “forever fix”, but with the right routine, you can calm irritation and keep symptoms under control.

Why Most Anti-Dandruff Products Miss the Mark

We've all been there... wondering the shampoo aisle which is packed with promises: “flake-free”, “itch relief”, “soothing formula”... but take a peek at the ingredients and you’ll often find a harsh cocktail of SLS, sulphates, strong synthetic antifungals and drying alcohols. Yes, some might give temporary results. But at what cost? They strip your scalp, mess with your natural microbiome and leave your hair dry, brittle and angry. No thanks.

Here’s what we don’t use and why:

  • Pyrithione Zinc - Banned in the EU over safety concerns. We like our ingredients gentle and effective.

  • Selenium Sulfide - Harsh, irritating, and can lead to discolouration or even hair loss. Not what we're looking for.

  • SLS & SLES - Makes your shampoo lather up like a bubble bath, but strips natural oils and makes flaking worse.

  • Oil-Soluble Silicones - Can trap oil, skin cells and gunk. Yuck and not great for sensitive or flake-prone skin.

  • MI & MCI -Preservatives but known irritants. Banned in many countries. We skip them completely.

  • Phthalate Fragrances - Mystery synthetic mixes that can wreak havoc on sensitive skin.

The bottom line? We keep those out so your scalp can chill out.

Your Flake-Free Routine, Sorted

Step 1: Pre-Treat With Scalp Cream

This cream has been helping flaky, irritated scalps for YEARS. Great for Dandruff, Seborrheic Dermatitis, Psoriasis and even Cradle Cap.

How to use: Start by parting your hair into sections and applying Scalp Cream directly to the areas that are dry, flaky or feeling fiery. No full head of hair? Even easier! Just smooth it straight onto the scalp. Leave it on overnight to let those nourishing ingredients do their thing. In the morning, gently dry-brush hair to lift away any loosened flakes. This is a good sign that healthier skin is on the way!

For best results, keep at it over a few wash days. Consistency is key! If your symptoms are more severe, you can use the Scalp Cream daily.

Step 2: Cleanse Gently

Once flakes are lifted, hop into the shower and massage 1-3 pumps of our Milk Shampoo into your scalp and agitate until you build up a lather (natural formulas don't foam up as fiercely as commercial shampoo formulas). Rinse well and repeat with a double wash if needed.

We use a targeted ingredient that tackles the actual cause of Dandruff: Malassezia yeast, to address the root cause instead of just the symptoms. Then add in Milk Protein to keep strands strong and breakage-free. And voilà, you’ve got yourself a shampoo that does more than just gently clean!

Step 3: Condition + Calm

After shampooing, squeeze out excess water and work our hydrating Cream Conditioner through the lengths of your hair. If your scalp’s feeling dry, bring a little up top too. Leave it on for 1-3 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

Formulated with Milk Protein, this conditioner helps strengthen strands while locking in moisture. Frizz-prone? No worries! Plant-based oils like Jojoba and Olive Oil help smooth things out.

Bonus Tips from Our Herd

  • Skip products with sulphates, alcohols or synthetic fragrances.

  • Avoid aerosol dry shampoos as they build up and can trigger flare-ups.

  • Don’t over-wash - your scalp needs its natural oils.

  • Use a scalp brush gently to lift dead skin when shampooing. Alternatively, gently use your fingertips.

  • Cold weather + stress = flare-up central. Be kind to yourself and your skin.

  • Wash hats, pillowcases and brushes regularly; they can hold onto oils and yeast.

  • Ditch heavy styling products or wash them out thoroughly after use.

  • Shower after excessive sweating to avoid gunk building up on the scalp.

Ready To Flake Off?

You don’t need harsh ingredients or empty promises. You need a scalp care routine that understands your skin, supports your microbiome and actually works. Your scalp deserves better, and so do you.
