When we set out to add a subtle, natural tint to our lip balm, we discovered that many other brands use something called Cochineal - a red coloring made by boiling beetles. Yep, beetles. It can also appear on labels as Carmine, Natural Colors or Natural Red Number. 4. While there’s nothing technically wrong with it (unless you’re a Cochineal insect), the idea of bug residue on our lips didn’t quite sit right with us. So, we found a nicer way.
Instead, we use Raphanus Sativus (Radish) Root Extract - a natural pigment derived from radishes! It gives the Strawberry Tinted Lip Balm its beautiful reddish tint, minus the bugs and synthetic dyes. Plus, it’s rich in antioxidants and has gentle astringent properties to help keep lips healthy, moisturized and naturally vibrant.

What ingredients do you avoid when making a lip balm?
We’re picky about what goes into our Lip Balms (and all our products) because they’re made for family and friends, not just customers. That means no petroleum-derived Paraffin or Mineral Oil, common in most commercial lip balms, because putting what you’d find in your car on your lips just doesn’t feel right, especially when it eventually gets ingested.
We also steer clear of synthetic preservatives like Parabens and Phenoxyethanol, which you’ll still see in many so-called “natural” brands. And that’s just the start! We avoid plenty of other nasties, too many to name here. The result? Lip Balms that are safe, nourishing and genuinely good for you.
Are MooGoo lip balms natural?

Sweet Almond Oil
Sweet Almond Oil is extracted from almond kernels and is nourishing to irritated and dry skin. It’s high in minerals and vitamins, and the types of fatty acids needed to help repair troubled skin.
Radish Root Extract
For a subtle and natural colour to our lip balm.
Jojoba Seed Oil
Jojoba Oil is extracted from jojoba seeds and is one of our all-time favourite oils to use. While it is actually a liquid wax, it is non-comedogenic (it does not clog the pores), extremely moisturizing, light and sinks into the skin easily.
Shea Butter
The natural complex fat extracted from the nuts of the Shea Tree, and one of the most intense moisturizing ingredients available. The traditional use of the butter is to reduce the appearance of fine lines, scars and stretch marks, and to ease a variety of skin irritations.
Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E)
We choose only to use naturally sourced Vitamin E instead of a synthetic one. Although it is more expensive, it has twice the bioavailability of synthetic forms which we think is worth the extra cost.
