While sifting through the research papers, we came across some new cleansing ingredients that had recently been ‘invented’. Our interest was piqued, and we singled out the gentlest one available in the world: Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, or SGG for short.

Derived from Glucose and Coconut Oil, and with some impressive stats behind it, we knew we had to have it. SCG is more expensive than other cleansing ingredients out there and is also a bit tricky to formulate with. It’s also one of the most environmentally friendly and sustainable too.

So, after many years and many trials, we developed this innovative, clinical formula using SGC as our primary cleanser, something we don’t see anywhere else on the market.

SCG has an irritation score (the way they measure gentleness) that is 38% lower than other leading gentle clinical cleansers, and 75% lower than synthetic detergent, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS).​

Skip the stress, by avoiding SLS

You often hear that prevention is better than a cure; we agree. While there are many internal factors that play a role in how your skin presents (which we won’t get into here), there are external preventative measures one can take to make sure they aren’t causing unnecessary stress to the skin, and it starts with cleansing.

Skin needs to be cleaned but this doesn’t need to be done with harsh detergents that strip the skin of its natural oils. Sulfates (like SLS) do a lot more damage than good, often leaving skin dry, tight and screaming for a scratch.

SLS and the like are often found in skin cleansers but are also used in commercial floor cleaning products and engine degreasers. SLS is the most common one, but there are others to keep an eye out for on product labels, usually big words ending in –fate.

We think these are too harsh to be used on humans because they strip out and wash away too much oil and moisture from the skin often leading to itchiness, irritation and dryness, and often causing skin issues to flare-up, stick around and come back uninvited.

Not all cleansers are created equal

As well as getting the cleaning job done, there’s quite a bit more about our formula that we'd like to brag about. Our fabulous formula is pH-balanced, soap-free, dermatologically tested and free of Parabens and other synthetic preservatives like Phenoxyethanol.

And then there are the Ceramides. Healthy skin has high concentrations of Ceramides, and their main job is to assist in retaining water and protecting the skin barrier from irritants.

Over time, factors like sun damage, ageing and irritants can cause a decrease in Ceramide levels in the skin. When this happens, the skin barrier is more susceptible to weakening, causing the skin to more easily become dry and irritated.

Those that suffer from skin conditions like eczema may have a Ceramide deficiency, so we recommend supplementing with topical products, like this one. By topping up Ceramide levels, you can help rebuild skin strength and improve skin barrier function.

Less foamy but more healthy

Natural cleansers are not only gentler on the skin, but they’re also much better for the environment when they’re washed down the drain into our waterways. But we think it’s important for everyone to know that the foam and suds created by natural cleansers is noticeably less than those made by cheap and simple sulfates. This means a little more agitation is required to build up the lather.

Who is Ultra Gentle Cleanser with Ceramides best for?

We always make our products suitable for all skin types, and this is no exception! Because it's so gentle, we think it's particularly suitable for those with eczema-prone, hypersensitive and fragile skin, or those going through chemotherapy or radiation treatment.

It's suitable for absolutely every-body, this means all ages, skin types and genders, from head to toe. Whether you have sensitive skin or not, we believe it's so important to wash your skin with something gentle as to not over-strip your skin of its natural oils.

What makes this formula so gentle?

When creating this product, the goal was to use the gentlest cleansing ingredient we could find in a new, innovative formula. The ultra-mild ingredient we found is called Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate (SCG) and it's listed 2nd in our ingredient list (after water) meaning it's the primary cleanser in our formula.

What are Ceramides, and how are they beneficial?

Ceramides are fats (lipids) that exist in high concentrations in the skin, particularly when it’s healthy. They make up more than 50% of the skin’s composition, but they assist in retaining water and protecting the skin barrier from irritants. Think of them as protectants that hold the skin together.

Those that suffer from skin conditions like eczema may have a Ceramide deficiency, so we recommend supplementing with topical products. Over time, factors like sun damage, ageing and other irritants can decrease Ceramide content in the skin. The skin barrier is more susceptible to weakening when Ceramides are depleted, causing the skin to become drier, more easily irritated and show signs of ageing. By topping up Ceramide levels, they can help rebuild skin strength and improve skin barrier function.

What type of Ceramides do you use?

We use Ceramides 3, which is a skin-identical barrier lipid that works to strengthen skin barrier function. Essentially, it’s an identical molecule to the ones found in our skin, so they’re easily absorbed, and you’ll receive long-term protection and support from ongoing supplementation.

How's this different from your Milk Wash?

While both of our cleansers are wonderfully gentle and designed for the most sensitive skin, there are a few differences. The primary cleanser in the Ultra Gentle Cleanser with Ceramides is Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, which is the gentlest cleansing ingredient available anywhere. The primary cleanser for our Milk Wash is Cocamidopropyl Betaine, which is also super gentle and non-irritating, and Milk Wash does not contain any Ceramides.

Why does the Ultra Gentle Cleanser with Ceramides cost more than Milk Wash?

Our Ultra Gentle Cleanser with Ceramides is more expensive than our Milk Wash as it includes Ceramides, which is a very costly ingredient, as well as Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate as the primary cleanser, which is the gentlest cleansing ingredient available, but also quite expensive to source.

Is Ultra Gentle Cleanser with Ceramides a face wash?

Yes, it most certainly can and SHOULD be! Most commercial body wash products are made with sulfates and detergents that clean the skin but can also often strip it of its natural oils. If you use a body wash product with ingredients like SLS, we definitely recommend NEVER using it on the delicate skin of the face. Tight, dry skin is a leading cause of the visible signs of premature ageing.

BUT, if you use a body cleanser with high-quality, skin-friendly, natural ingredients like our Milk Wash, then we highly recommend using it on your face so your visage can also reap the benefits of this wonderful wash. Now you’ve got a masterful multi-tasker.

Your Ultra Gentle Cleanser with Ceramides has a fragrance. Aren’t fragrances bad?

We designed our Ultra Gentle Cleanser with Ceramides to be suitable for people with sensitive skin, but we also know that many people, including ourselves, enjoy having a fragrance in our skincare products. To give our Ultra Gentle Cleanser with Ceramides its delicious, subtle scent without compromising its gentleness and non-irritating nature, we use a special hypoallergenic fragrant oil, a proprietary blend whereby each component in it is less than the EU allergy threshold. Also, it’s free from phthalates, which is a major concern in fragrances.

Why is it only available in a 500g pump bottle?

Since buying in a larger size is usually more cost-effective, and as we're all looking for ways to budget our bucks these days, we decided to bring out a bulk-size 500g pump bottle to give you the best value for your MOO-lah. This size comes in handy when shopping for the whole family, so now there's enough for everyone. The pump top is also quite convenient and easier for the little ones.

I can’t seem to get all the product out of the bottle? Help!

Products with higher viscosity can be harder to dispense through a pump when the product is running low. To get your hands on the last bit of product, simply turn the bottle upside down and allow it to make its way down with the help of gravity. Later when you unscrew the cap, the product will be there ready for you to use and enjoy. You can also add a small amount of water to the remaining product and shake it to make it a bit thinner so it can more easily be dispensed through the pump or poured into your hand.

Is Ultra Gentle Cleanser with Ceramides made of milk?

We aren’t called MooGoo because our products are made with milk. Putting fresh milk into a skincare product and putting it on a shelf would not end well.

Is Ultra Gentle Cleanser with Ceramides suitable for kids?

Our Ultra Gentle Cleanser is made for the whole family! For all ages, from adults to newborns, and everything in between. It’s even gentle enough to be used on delicate baby skin. Since it's free of sulfates like SLS, it's a tear-free too. If allergies are a concern, as with all natural products, we recommend doing a patch test before use.

What is the pH level of your products?

Our Ultra Gentle Cleanser with Ceramides is slightly acidic, balanced to the pH of human skin at 5.5 to 6.0. pH is measured from 0 to 14 depending on how acidic or alkaline a substance is.

Healthy skin can retain moisture, maintain a robust microbiome and keep irritants away. Using a cleanser that's pH balanced to match our skin is one of the best ways to support this.

Will I react to Ultra Gentle Cleanser with Ceramides?

Everybody is different and what works for some will not for others, and some people have allergies to natural ingredients. We believe that natural ingredients are gentler on the skin and are particularly suitable for those with sensitivities. If you experience any skin issues, we always recommend doing a patch test before use.

Are your products tested on animals?

The only animals we use for testing are our own bodies. We never test on animals and will not export to countries that do.

Why does body wash make my skin itch?

Detergents and sulfates like SLS, are often found in wash products can strip out and wash away a lot of the natural oil and moisture from the skin, often causing itchiness, irritation and dryness.

What kind of cleanser is best for sensitive skin / skin issues?

The best kind of cleanser for sensitive skin or skin prone to eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis is one that can gently and effectively keep it clean without stripping it of its natural, protective oils and not cause further irritation.

Harshly stripping the skin can compromise skin barrier function, which can cause moisture to escape causing dryness, and unwanted irritants to get in causing skin reactions to flare-up, stick around and come back uninvited.
