Our Cream Conditioner is one of our most popular products. It was created to complement our Milk Shampoo that was originally made for a family member with a very itchy scalp. We think a conditioner should kindly care for hair and not coat or irritate the scalp, and that is how our Cream Conditioner came to be.

Not all conditioners are created equal

The point of using a conditioner is to moisturize and detangle hair. We use naturally derived oils that penetrate deep into the hair, exactly where you want and need them. We find Jojoba and Olive Oil the best at keeping hair nourished, detangled and s-MOO-th.

Most hair conditioners are made using silicone-based ingredients, usually big words that end with –cone (keep an eye out for these on product labels!) that coat the hair in something slippery, making it feel silky. While they detangle knots well and make your hair feel like heaven, they sit on top of the hair and make it ‘feel’ hydrated, but they don’t offer much in the way of real, deep hydration. Some conditioner formulas out there also contain alcohols and sulfates, two things we never want harming our hair.

Buildup is a real bummer

Another problem we find with silicone-based ingredients is that they build up and leave a residue on the hair and scalp over time and it can be gosh-darn difficult to get rid of. Silicone can start to weigh the hair down, leaving it heavy, lifeless and dull. Even a little bit of buildup on the scalp can start to cause irritation, blocking hair follicles and its overall ability to breathe and regulate – not the best environment for healthy hair growth, in our opinion. Once build-up shows up, you’ll need a clarifying shampoo (and a good scrubbing) to get rid of it. Our Milk Shampoo is a good one of those.

As silicone builds up, mixed in with dead skin, sweat and excess oils, chunks can slough off, causing flakes to appear on your scalp, hair and clothing. These flakes are often confused with scalp dryness and dandruff, but it’s quite common for all 3 of these to go hand-in-hand-in-hand. Silicone is an outdated ingredient that for some reason just keeps sticking around, literally.

More than just hydration for your hair

As well as getting the conditioning job done, there’s quite a bit more about our formula that we'd like to brag about. We only use high-quality, natural ingredients that keep your hair and scalp nourished and moisturized, and our innovative conditioner soothes itchy scalps and helps maintain a balanced microflora.

We also tossed in a healthy dose of Milk Protein which is easily absorbed by hair fibers and creates a protective protein layer. It also gets into every layer of the hair cuticle and revitalizes hair’s natural protective layer giving you stronger, easier-to-manage, more resilient hair. But what's in our all-natural conditioner is just as important as what's not. It also contains no parabens or other synthetic preservatives like yucky phenoxyethanol.

Better for you AND the environment

Natural conditioning ingredients are not only gentler on the hair and scalp, but they’re also much better for the environment when they enter our waterways. Silicones and other synthetic ingredients like sulphates don’t easily break down into their natural components. In fact, silicones are not biodegradable.

Our scalp-friendly formula is one of our top-selling products, helping people achieve luscious locks and an itch-free scalp. Upgrade your hair care by kicking silicone to the curb and make way for natural and superior ingredients to condition your coif.

Let us know if you have any questions about our conditioner and we’ll do our best to wash your concerns away. On the topic of hair conditioning, we also make a Leave-In Conditioner to pamper your ends, and it's also silicone-free! Give your hair a little more love and moisture, and some protection from heat-styling too.

FAQs

Your Cream Conditioner contains a fragrance. Aren’t fragrances bad?

We designed our Cream Conditioner to be suitable for people with itchy and sensitive scalps, but we also know that many people, including ourselves, enjoy having a fragrance in our hair products. To give our Cream Conditioner its delicious, signature scent without compromising its non-irritating nature, we use a special hypoallergenic fragrant oil, a proprietary blend whereby each component in it is less than the EU allergy threshold. Also, it’s free from phthalates, which is a major concern in fragrances.

Is Cream Conditioner safe for colour-treated hair?

For those out there that colour their hair, a colour-safe conditioner is basically one that doesn’t contain sulfates (like SLS or SLES) and is not alkaline. We steer clear of sulfates in all our hair care products because they strip the hair of its natural oils, and also tend to quickly remove colour too. Our Cream Conditioner has a pH that is slightly acidic, making it safe and suitable for colour treated hair, helping your colour stay put and vibrant.

I can’t seem to get all the product out of the bottle? Help!

Products with higher viscosity can be harder to dispense through a pump when the product is running low. To get your hands on the last bit of product, simply turn the bottle upside down and allow it to make its way down with the help of gravity. Later when you unscrew the cap, the product will be there ready for you to use and enjoy. You can also add a small amount of water to the remaining product and shake it to make it a bit thinner so it can more easily be dispensed through the pump or poured into your hand.

Is Cream Conditioner made of milk?

We aren’t called MooGoo because our products are made with milk. Putting fresh milk into a hair care product and putting it on a shelf would not end well. We use ethically sourced Milk Protein from a credible Australian supplier.

Is Cream Conditioner suitable for children?

Our Cream Conditioner is made for the whole family! For all ages, from adults to newborns, and everything in between. It’s even gentle enough to be used on delicate baby scalps. Many of our parent customers call this a real lifesaver to help get a comb through their children’s hair, without the silicone and without the tears. We're always here to help. If allergies are a concern, as with all natural products, patch test before use.

Where do you source your Milk Protein?

When sourcing ingredients, animal welfare is a topic that we’re very mindful of. We source our Milk Protein from a credible supplier in Australia and we spoke with them extensively to ensure that ethical practices are implemented throughout their business.

What is the pH level of your products?

Our Cream Conditioner is slightly acidic, balanced to the pH of human skin at 5.5 to 6.0.

I have a sensitive scalp; will I react to Cream Conditioner?

Everybody is different and what works for some will not for others, and some people have allergies to natural ingredients. We believe that natural ingredients are gentler on the scalp, and are particularly suitable for those that are red, irritated and itchy. If you're experiencing scalp issues or sensitivity, we always recommend doing a patch test before use.

Are your products tested on animals?

The only animals we use for testing are our own bodies. We never test on animals and will not export to countries that do.

I have curly hair. Will Cream Conditioner work for me?

We’ve found that our Cream Conditioner is pretty popular with the curly hair community, and along with our Milk Shampoo and Protein Shot Leave-In Conditioner, is a product that many followers of the Curly Girl Method use regularly.

Curls and waves tend to look and feel their best when hair is kept healthy and hydrated, and not covered in buildup weighing it down. Some people even use it to wash their hair instead of shampoo as the natural oils in it help remove excess oils from their hair, kind of like oil cleansing for your face. This is called "The No ‘Poo Method"; google it to learn more.

I have dry / oily / damaged / thin hair. Will Cream Conditioner work for me?

We often get asked why we don’t make different conditioners specific to different hair types such as damaged / thin / oily hair etc. While we believe that people have different hair types, if you look closely at ingredient labels, you’ll notice there often isn't much difference between products specifically made for each variation.

A conditioner made for thin or damaged hair is usually higher in silicone-based ingredients, so they really coat the hair, making it ‘feel’ thicker and stronger. This usually leads to buildup on the hair that may require a clarifying shampoo to remove.

Whether your hair is curly, wavy, straight, thin, thick, long or short, conditioner should hydrate your hair without causing problems. In our opinion, we don’t think different conditioners are necessary; you only need one good one (like ours!) and vary the amount you use depending on how much is needed for your head of hair.

Is natural conditioner good for your hair?

Most hair conditioners are made using silicone-based ingredients that coat the hair in something slippery, making it feel silky. While they detangle knots well and make your hair feel like heaven, they don’t offer much in the way of real, deep hydration. They also build up on the hair and scalp over time and can start to weigh the hair down, leaving it heavy, lifeless and dull.

Even a little bit of buildup on the scalp can start to cause irritation, blocking hair follicles and its overall ability to breathe and regulate – not the best environment for healthy hair growth, in our opinion. We think switching to a gentler, more natural conditioner is one of the best things you can do for the health of your hair and scalp.

Is natural conditioner better for the environment?

Natural oils and hair conditioners are much better for the environment when they’re washed down the drain and enter our waterways. Silicones and other synthetic ingredients like sulphates don’t easily break down into their natural components. In fact, silicones are not biodegradable.

Does natural conditioner work?

Natural conditioning ingredients work just as well at smoothing and detangling the hair as their synthetic counterparts. Saying sayonara to silicone just means healthier hair without the burden of buildup. Silicone also doesn’t offer much in the way of hydration. Instead, natural conditioners like ours use naturally-derived oils to penetrate deeply into hair to deliver hydration, exactly where you want and need it.

Why is natural conditioner better?

Natural conditioner is made with natural oils and conditioning ingredients that won’t build up on the hair and scalp like silicone does. Natural ingredients also break down once they reach our waterways while silicone and other synthetic ingredients don’t.

Why does conditioner make my scalp itch?

Silicone-based ingredients are often found in hair conditioners and can build up on the hair and scalp over time. Even a little bit of buildup on the scalp can start to cause irritation, blocking hair follicles and its overall ability to breathe and regulate, making the scalp prone to irritation and itchiness. Ditch that itch!

This conditioner is amazing. I have fine hair and this conditioner makes my hair so shiny and soft and I wash it less than with other shampoos I have been using. It's also amazing on my daughters hair, she has sensitive skin and a dry scalp. Could not recommend more highly. It is worth every dollar.

    Wonderful conditioner

I had been using the shampoo for a couple weeks and found that it was stopping the itching, and flaky scalp. So I thought it would be a good idea to buy the conditioner to compliment it. Very pleased with both products.
