You might be wondering why we started making face serums when we’re best known for our hair care, and our gentle formulas for sensitive skin. As per usual, we weren’t happy with what we were seeing in the market, so we made our own.

A few things you should know

First, we selected ingredients that were well-studied and proven to be effective so we knew they would work. This included making sure the active ingredients we chose remain stable and effective (you’d be shocked to know how uncommon this is). They also need to meet the standards of our Ingredient Philosophy.

Then we wanted to make sure our formula had enough of the good stuff in it to make a meaningful difference to your skin (you’d also be shocked at how uncommon this is). We also had to make sure it can get into the skin by using a suitable delivery system because without this, ingredients can end up just sitting on the skin surface not doing a whole lot (more shock).

Why is this serum more expensive than the others?

We’re very picky about which ingredients we choose to use and will always choose higher quality ones over a lower cost. We also only include ingredients that are backed by science to ensure that our customers get effective products that do what they claim.

Specifically for this serum, the Argireline® Amplified Peptide is a highly innovative ingredient that’s 50x more potent than regular Argireline® Peptide, but also costs more to source.

We paired it with high-purity BeauActive® to address sun damage, and a unique liposome delivery system to make sure it penetrates deeply into the skin, both adding to the cost of this serum. It may cost a bit more to produce than our other serums, but we think it’s worth it.

Can I use this serum for more than 28 days?

Yes! The lab trials we reference show the best results when the Argireline® Amplified Peptide (5%) is used for at least 28 days. The effects of Argireline® Amplified Peptide last around 5 days, so with ongoing use your results will improve over time as wrinkles and expression lines are preventatively diminished.

Are there any products I should avoid while using a serum with peptides?

To ensure you’re getting the most out of your peptide products, we suggest not mixing them with products that contain large amounts of direct acids like Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids, as the acids can break the bonds between peptides, reducing their efficacy, and nobody wants that.

Instead, we recommend using products with peptides and ones with direct acids alternatively, morning and night, if you wish to use them both and target multiple skin concerns.

Is Modified Argireline® Amplified Peptide a natural ingredient?

Argireline® Peptide consists of a group of natural amino acids, namely Arginine, Glytamine, Methionine and Acetylated Glutamic Acid. This means that the ingredient is naturally derived.

Is BeauActive® a natural ingredient?

Yes! BeauActive® (Hydroxystearic Acid) is naturally derived from Oleic Acid (Sunflower Oil) and is also the identical ingredient in fermented Ginseng. It’s also manufactured using Green Chemistry, which ensures it meets our sustainability commitments.

How does Argireline® Amplified Peptide affect facial muscles / expressions?

The Argireline® Amplified Peptide works by weakening the neurotransmitters between the skin and facial muscles, which means the skin is less impacted by your natural expressions. As a result, when you smile (or frown – hopefully not too often!) the skin will crease less, which means less opportunity for permanent creases to form. This also improves the appearance of current expression lines as they will crease less deeply during facial movement and therefore not appear as severe. Over time the added benefits of this serum such as stimulating collagen will also help to ‘plump out’ fine lines and improve overall youthfulness of the skin.

Can I use this serum during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

We have found no specific studies on this as presumably, it’s ethically difficult to do. In cases where there isn’t any specific cause for concern, we advise people that it’s best to do whatever they feel most comfortable with.

Does the Argireline® Amplified Peptide increase UV sensitivity?

No, Argireline® Amplified Peptide does not increase your UV sensitivity so it can still be used prior to sun exposure.

Can long-term use of Argireline® Amplified Peptide cause 'sagginess'?

Unfortunately, this is a wide-spread rumour about Argireline® Peptide that’s been circulating online. The functioning mechanism of Argireline® Peptide is similar to popular anti-wrinkle injections in that it affects the neurotransmitters between your skin and facial muscles, reducing skin movement (on a much less drastic, more affordable and less invasive level). An injection completely inhibits these neurotransmitters, which is why some people find that thin areas of the face (like under the eyes) can begin to sag with prolonged use, because the muscle has been totally relaxed for long periods of time.

Argireline® Amplified Peptide, however, does not fully block the connection between the skin and facial muscles, but rather just weakens them to reduce movement, not eliminate it. This makes it very unlikely to cause any long-term or permanent skin sagginess. There are also no clinical tests showing that the long-term topical application of Argireline® Peptide causes these negative effects. On the contrary, there are numerous clinical results that display how Argireline® Peptide improves expression wrinkles and skin sagginess around the eyes, forehead and mouth.

Do serums go underneath or on top of moisturizer?

Our face serums are designed to be applied directly to clean skin, before applying moisturizer. We recommend letting it soak in for a few minutes before applying your favourite moisturizer over top.

How do you apply serums in a face routine?

Your skin routine should always be based around your skin type, specific skin needs and personal preference. In general, serums are most effective when applied to clean skin. Allow a few minutes for it to soak in and apply your favourite moisturizer over top.

For best results, we recommend using your serum of choice every morning and night before you apply your moisturizer. To keep things simple, we suggest sticking to one serum and one moisturizer per application, but if you have more than one of either on hand, you can alternate between them (for example, one in the AM and one in the PM) based on your skincare goals.

Can this serum be used around the eyes?

We like to keep things simple even if marketing can sometimes tell us otherwise and tries to convince us that we need a different product for every part of the body, and even different parts of the face. All our serums are gentle enough to be used anywhere you like, including the delicate skin of the eye area. However, we don’t recommend applying anything directly to your eyes or eyelids and suggest taking extra care with this area by applying serums around your orbital bone as the product can spread out and migrate a bit as it warms up to your body temperature. If any product does get into your eye, simply rinse with water.

Is Amplified Anti-Ageing Peptide Active Serum with Argireline® made of milk?

We aren’t called MooGoo because our products are made with milk. Putting fresh milk into a skincare product and putting it on a shelf would not end well. This formula is vegan-friendly and does not contain any of the non-vegan ingredients we use in some of our other products (Milk Protein, Honey and Beeswax).

What is the pH level of your products?

Our Amplified Anti-Ageing Peptide Active Serum with Argireline® is slightly acidic, balanced to the pH of human skin at 5.5 to 6.0. pH is measured from 0 to 14 depending on how acidic or alkaline a substance is.

I have sensitive skin; will I react to Amplified Anti-Ageing Peptide Active Serum with Argireline®?

Everybody is different and what works for some will not for others, and some people have allergies to natural ingredients. We believe that natural ingredients are gentler on the skin and are particularly suitable for those with sensitivities. If you experience any skin issues, we always recommend doing a patch test before use.

Are your products tested on animals?

The only animals we use for testing are our own bodies. We never test on animals and will not export to countries that do.
